Relaxing With Casual Dining And Entertaining
Casual dining and entertaining will work well for you if you enjoy having family and friends over, but do not necessarily enjoy fussing over formal dinner or entertaining preparations.
For instance, I know that I enjoy entertaining that doesn't put me behind the kitchen counter and in front of the stove the entire time guests are visiting.
TIPS FOR CASUAL DINING AND ENTERTAINING
When possible, try to allow at least 1 week to prepare for your party.
Based on the number of guests you will be having, decide upon the food that you want to serve.
I always try to find food that can easily be prepared ahead of time. Think through everything from appetizers to dessert and don't forget the beverages!! Make a list.
I have made the mistake in the past of trying new recipes for a gathering. This only adds anxiety. Choose food items that you are accustomed to preparing - thus eliminating any additional stress over your meal preparation.
About 1 week before your casual dining party, go through your kitchen and dining/entertaining area to remove or put away any clutter. Put away any unnecessary items in the bathroom that the guests will be using.
Three days before hosting your casual dining party, you should shop for your groceries/beverages.
Two days before entertaining, give your house a thorough cleaning - it will be easier since the clutter was already taken care of a couple of days earlier.
Also, this is a good time to consider what type of centerpiece you would like for your casual dining table. Something very easy is to just get a bouquet of fresh flowers, appropriate to the season, and put them in a country pitcher or vase on your dining table.
One day before your party, be sure you have enough seating for the number of guests you'll be hosting.
Prepare any food items that can be made ahead of time - including dessert.
Do a quick vacuum job in the entertaining area. Also, take advantage of those modern conveniences, such as, Lysol or Clorox wipes for a quick wipe down of your bathroom.
Finally, party day, put your centerpiece together and place on your table.
Arrange your dining area for easy self-serve access. Set your table with the necessary casual dinnerware, flatware, and glasses.
Prepare your meal and be sure to give yourself enough time to relax before anyone arrives.
If you take some time to relax before your casual dining event, you will feel less hurried, and you will be able to enjoy your time with your guests.
Something important to remember is that you don't have to make all homemade dishes or desserts.
If you do purchase a store bought item, make it look fun and interesting by simply adding a garnish or two and placing it on one of your casual dinnerware pieces.
Guests are more interested in having a good time and relaxing with you than focusing on whether or not your food is all homemade.
You could serve something simple like chili, beef stew, take out, or pizza for your casual dining party. The food, itself, is not that important. What they will remember and appreciate is the cozy ambiance you took the time to create for them while entertaining them at your home.
Casual dining and entertaining will correspond perfectly with your cozy country home environment.
