Change Your Room In 5 Easy Steps

1. Rearrange:

Yes, one of the most obvious but truly effective methods for you to change your room is by rearranging your furniture. You can bring your furniture in and away from your walls, or position a sofa or large piece of your furniture in a diagonal position.

These steps can allow your room to emerge as a warm and welcoming conversational area instead of just a room with furniture lining the walls.

Also, the diagonal positioning idea can help to establish an illusion of a larger room, if your room is on the smaller side.

2. Accessorize:

Change your room by incorporating accessories throughout which will add interest, texture, and allow you to bring in additional color.

These items can be in the form of framed prints, wall signs, pillows, window treatments, afghans, flowers, knick knacks, and anything you can think of that helps to bring out the emergence of your room’s new theme, or personality.

3. Tidy up:

It is definitely hard to do when you have small children in your home, but keeping your room cleaned up and free from too much clutter helps to maintain your room’s appeal, theme, and overall charm.

Try keeping your children’s toys neatly stored away (with easy access for them to bring them out, of course), or at least in one area of the room when they are not “in use”.

Watch out for the “too many magazines” syndrome! Your beautiful coffee table easily looses its appeal when it can’t be seen through all the magazines. Keeping just a couple of magazines or books related to your room’s theme or style on your coffee table is just enough for some interest, but not too many as to not have them become your room’s focal point.

4. Your Walls:

Painting a new color, painting just one wall, applying wallpaper, or beadboard, trying a faux painting technique: these are just some ideas for ways in which you can change your walls to quickly “freshen up” or “warm up” your room.

5. Lighting:

Moving existing lamps to different locations or installing some wall sconces can easily change your room’s ambiance. The lighting in your room speaks directly to the mood you are trying to create.
