Easy Painted Furniture
You can have painted furniture, and it doesn't have to be a complicated process.
I have an old farmhouse style table, that at one time, had white legs and a natural wood top. I didn't want to part with this table because it was very well constructed. However, the chairs that were purchased for it, needed to be replaced.
My husband and I went to an unfinished furniture shop and ordered 6 beautiful chairs to go with our farmhouse table. The furniture shop also does furniture finishing, so we picked a stain color that we thought would work with our table and had them do it for us.
When our chairs were delivered, we were disappointed at how they looked with the white legs on the table. The chairs that we were replacing had white backs and legs with a natural wood seat. The new chairs were not painted but were stained with a warm pecan color.
After thinking of many ways to fix our problem, we decided to purchase a new table from the same furniture store with the same stain color.
Unfortunately, it was a month before Christmas, and we realized that it was not a good time to purchase a new table. It was then that I had the idea of painting the white legs of our table.
I thought that since the new chairs were such a warm color with their pecan stain, that the table would look better with them if it were also a warmer color - not white.
Since I never painted furniture before, I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out. All along, though, I was thinking that this was just going to be a temporary fix until after the holiday season.
I purchased 3 cans of flat burgundy spray paint. My husband detached the top of the table. He then lightly sanded the white base and legs. In our basement, I spray painted the base and legs.
The outcome was much better than I anticipated. It really looked great! The temporary fix I thought I was getting, turned out to be a money saver. We still have the same table in our kitchen and are not considering replacing it.
Painted furniture has an appealing country affect and can be easily accomplished.
We really couldn't believe it - 3 cans of spray paint, and a totally different look for our old table!
