Learning About The Appeal and Art Of Quilting

Americana Quilt

If you're feeling kind of adventurous and would like to learn the art of quilting so that you can create one of your own, you are not alone.

The number of people learning and has grown to more than 21 million in the U.S. as reported at the end of 2003.

This hobby has grown in popularity in other countries, as well, such as, Australia, England, and Japan - just to name a few.

The appeal of displaying one's individual artistic talent through quilting has undoubtedly contributed to its expansion. For instance, even when following the existing patterns, the choice of color and fabric enables quilters to express their own creativity and personality - making each one unique.

Some people actually use pieces of material that they have collected from their a child's old clothes, blankets, etc. Just think of the sentimental value of using a child's old baby clothes and then handing down the masterpiece to your son or daughter when they are grown!

I have personally not had the opportunity to learn, but after reading about what the following book has to offer, I am considering giving it a try myself.

If I were any kind of sewer in the first place, I wouldn't even hesitate. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten too much past sewing buttons on my husband's shirts or mending my children's torn stuffed animals!

My husband's aunt has just made one for each of my 3 children for Christmas. They will treasure them forever, as they remember her whenever they use them.

I would love to be able to learn and make them as gifts for loved ones, also. What better way than giving a homemade creation to express your fondness of someone and for them to have something to always remember you by?
