Scrapbooking Supplies Needed To Begin Your Album

I thought it would be helpful to give you a list of scrapbooking supplies that you will need to begin your scrapbooking project.

Keep in mind that there are many types of helpful, fun scrapbooking supplies and tools. I'm just mentioning some basic things that you will be needing to get started.

In time, you can pick up additional supplies a little at a time to expand your inventory, but it is not necessary to have everything that is available when you first get started.

I've found that this is a good way to acquire the scrapbooking supplies you want without spending alot of money all at once.

***** Important advice, which I received from a good friend and experienced scrapbooker, that I wanted to pass along to you regarding your scrapbooking supplies.

In order to ensure maximum preservation of your photos and finished album, you should look for materials that are acid free and lignin free.

Materials that contain acid will deteriorate your photos much sooner.

Lignin free means the paper or stickers won't turn brown with age.

Products simply stating "photo safe" does not guarantee that they are acid free and lignin free.

After spending your time, money and putting in alot of thought and work, you will want your album to be safe and preserved for your family to enjoy year after year.*****

1. Scrapbooking Album - They are available in several sizes. There are also different types - stap hinge, and postbound. It is a good idea to purchase at least 1 refill package at the time you purchase your album, that way you'll be sure to get the correct pages for your album size and style.

Also, page protectors (plastic covers) are important to purchase in order to protect your masterpiece scrapbooking pages. Some albums come with page protectors, while others require you to purchase them separately.

2. Cutting Tools - Regular scrapbooking scissors and stencils for cropping your photos.

As mentioned above, there are many tools available for cutting, but if you want to just get started and don't want to purchase these sophisticated supplies, you'll be able to start with basic scissors and stencils.

At one point, if you become a scrapbooking enthusiast, it would be beneficial to acquire some of these cutting systems. They are definitely more convenient and produce a smoother cut than scissors.

3. Cardstock - Patterned or plain paper for decorating your pages.

You can purchase pre-cut paper strips and shapes. This is a major convenience in decorating your pages efficiently.

4. Adhesive - I really like using a tape runner or photo splits (two-sided pieces of tape). Photo glue sticks are also available, but are much messier.

5. Stenciling Markers - Good quality, markers for journaling your pages.

Journaling is an important step in scrapbooking. It is a personal way to tell the story of your photos.

This process enables others to view your album and have a better understanding of what was going on at the time the photo was taken.

It could even be a word or two of something silly to highlight a mood or situation.

Additionally, this is helpful for naming people that possibly in 10 - 15 years, you may no longer know or remember their names.

6. Stickers - After deciding on what photos you will be working with, purchase some fun stickers to coordinate with the theme of your photos.

Example - Disney trip, beach vacation, birthday, Christmas, etc.

I really hope this gives you an idea and a better understanding of where to begin when it comes to the scrapbooking supplies that are available and the essentials you will need to get started.
