Choose Stenciling For A Creative Wall Decor Idea
Stenciling is a very inexpensive way to decorate your walls. This wall decor idea has the homemade appeal of country decor and adds a definite personal touch.
Use this decorating technique as an alternative wall decor idea to wallpaper border or wallies.
Maybe you just want to try a different look for an entire room, or possibly just to frame a doorway or window. If that is the case, this could be the decorating idea that you're looking for.
SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED
* Pattern - you can make your own, or purchase one
* Stencil brush or brushes - 1 brush per color is helpful
* Small jars of creme paint - this is the easiest to use because it does not run
* Masking tape
These supplies can usually be found at a craft store.
TIPS
1. You only need a little paint on the brush - practice on a piece of paper first.
2. When you are applying the paint to your pattern, work from the outside towards the middle in each shape. For instance, if there is a large heart in your pattern, you would want to use strokes from the outside of the heart towards the middle of the heart. This will keep the paint from getting under the stencil, and you'll keep neat, defined lines.
3. Use quick, short strokes.
4. Attach the pattern to the wall with small pieces of masking tape on the corners of the pattern. Then just pull gently off and move to the next spot.
5. If using more than one color, only apply one color at a time and allow to dry before applying the 2nd color. You could go around the room and finish one color, then go back to do 2nd colored items, after the 1st color has dried. Repeat these steps with any additional colors.
Stenciling is certainly a good project to try out your creative side - even if you feel you don't necessarily have one. And in case you can't find someone to assist you with the wallpaper border - stenciling is an easy one person job!
